Illegal sale of alcohol still a challenge for Primrose police

Primrose police nab four suspects on a charge of dealing in liquor without a licence.

The Primrose police recently arrested four suspects, aged between 30 and 51 years old, on a charge of dealing in liquor without a licence.

The arrests were made in the Makause and Marathon informal settlements during a police operation aimed at cracking down on the illegal sale of alcohol in Primrose’s informal settlements.

“We hope that by continuously holding operations of this nature we will curb some of the liquor-related crimes taking place in the area like assault, domestic violence, rape and loud music,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“We appeal to the community to refrain from selling liquor without valid licences.

“We will continue conducting similar operations in our precinct.”

All of the arrested suspects were taken to the Primrose Police Station following their arrests.

Their taverns were closed and the establishments’ alcohol confiscated.

The suspects have since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where their cases were postponed for plea and trial.
