Help bring Mercy home

Mercy Mbano’s family is appealing to the community to help them find her. She went missing on November 22 last year.

“When I am eating, I wonder if she has something to eat; when I am going to bed at night, I wonder where she is sleeping.

“This is an extremely difficult time for our family.”

These are the words of Sinwinile Mbano, the aunt of 13-year-old Mercy Sibonokuhle Mbano, who went missing on November 22 last year, in Primrose.

Mercy was last seen at about 5am on that day wearing a red skirt, orange top and brown jacket.

She has a medium build, short black hair, weighs about 32kg and is about 1.2m tall.

South African Community Crime Watch (SACCW) has compiled and distributed a missing person’s flyer over various social media platforms across South Africa and a missing person’s case has been registered at the Primrose Police Station.

Mike Venter, the chief operating officer of SACCW, told the GCN that he made contact with the family after the case was brought to his attention by a concerned citizen.

“I visited the area around Mercy’s residence on November 29 last year and visited shops where I was told she frequented.

“Most people knew her but had not seen her since she went missing,” said Mike.

“The next day I put together a team consisting of members of the SAPS K9 Unit and South African Search and Rescue Organisation.

“The SAPS provided cadaver dogs and SA Search and Rescue Organisation, live-scent dogs.”

The SAPS K9 Unit members searched a large open field not far from Mercy’s residence, but they did not pick up a scent.

The live-scent dogs picked up her scent at a local playground, but then her trail ran cold.

No further leads into her whereabouts have been received.

Sinwinile told the GCN that the family have been doing everything in their power to find Mercy.

“We have looked at all possibilities, but all our efforts have been in vain,” she said.

“As a family we are worried. We don’t know where she is and a lot of dark things happen in the world.

“We are appealing to everyone who might have information to please come forward.”

Sinwinile added that they are always left wondering as to where she is, and the family cannot carry on with their lives as they are always thinking of Mercy.

“She is in our prayers every day, and we pray that we will find her,” Sinwinile said.

If you have seen Mercy or have any information which could help bring her home safely, contact the Primrose SAPS on 011 842 0500 or Mike on 067 371 3564.
