Germiston High School learners rejoice in their results

No lack of enthusiasm for Germiston High School learners as they collect their results.

After the long and anticipated wait, the 2019 National Senior Certificate (NSC) results have finally been released.

Germiston High School learners gave a sigh of relief as they arrived at the school early to collect their results.

“We are very satisfied with our results,” said Renée Goosen, who is the principal of Germiston High School.

“We worked hard with these matrics, and they were not a particularly strong academic group, however, they were given support and assisted wherever possible through numerous intervention strategies.”

The school received 55 distinctions and a pass rate of 95.45 per cent.

Two-hundred-and-one learners wrote matric, with 81 learners receiving their bachelor’s passes and 86 learners receiving diploma passes.

Top achiever and representative council of learners (RCL) president, Ntuthuko Hlatshwayo, received seven distinctions in English, Afrikaans, life orientation, mathematics, economics, life sciences and physical science.

“I was surprised with my results,” said Hlatshwayo.

“I am very proud with the outcome, even though I know I can do better, I am very happy with my results.”

Hlatshwayo is planning on studying medicine and has her heart set on specialising in neurology.

Other top achievers at Germiston High School were Nuha Alli and Lesedi Mashego, who received five distinctions each, and Atlegang Maubane and Nozipho Ntonibela with four distinctions each.

“I was shocked with my physical science mark because I was not expecting a percentage above 85 per cent, and I got 86 per cent, but the rest of my results I did expect,” said Ntonibela.

Ntonibela plans on studying civil engineering at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) this year.

“Our matrics and our staff members are congratulated and thanked for the excellent work done in 2019, and we look forward to even better results in 2020,” said Goosen.

Goosen was also proud to share that Germiston High School remains a top performing school.
