Sylvie makes 2020 national SAFBAF angling team

Hazeldene angler grows from strength to strength.

Thirteen-year-old ā€œpassionate about anglingā€ Sylvie Richards of Hazeldene is ecstatic.

The youngster has been chosen for the South African Fresh Water Bank Angling Federation (SAFBAF) national 2020 team in the u-19 young ladies section.

Her triumph comes after she battled it out against other anglers at the National Angling Championships in December, last year.

She was placed fifth from a pool of 17 anglers.

Due to this performance, Sylvie qualified to participate in the national trials.

Hazeldene angler Sylvie Richards shows off her bag with a weight of 22.58kg which she netted on day two of the national trials.

During the two-day trial session, the u-19 young ladies battled fiercely for a place in the national SAFBAF team for 2020.

ā€œThe strong winds blowing on the surface of Bloemhof Dam created very harsh conditions for the young women to fish in, and added to this the youngstersā€™ physical stamina, mental endurance, angling skills, technique and knowledge were put to the test,ā€ said Sylvieā€™s mother, Georgia.

ā€œDuring the national trials, Sylvie tapped into all her resources and netted a 3.676kg Graskarp on day one and on day two brought in a stunning bag of 35 fish with a total weight of 22.58kg.ā€

After much anticipation the official news of Sylvieā€™s inclusion in the team arrived just after Christmas.
