Race creates awareness about HIV/Aids on World Aids Day.

Young cross-country star Andries Sesedi ran a personal best to claim victory in the World Aids Day Half Marathon at the Katlehong Sports Complex last Sunday.

Kwanda Longoza completed the podium just over a minute behind.

Sesedi, from Mohlakeng’s Colossus Athletics Club, beat his previous half-marathon best of one hour, eight minutes and 38 seconds which he set in Port Elizabeth at the South African Half Marathon Championships in July.

In the women’s race, Thato Pule was timed at one hour, 12 minutes and one second to beat Glenda Williams (1:13:37) by just over a minute while Thuli Mkhanazi (1:14:33) rounded off the podium positions.

The event was held in support of World Aids Day which is commemorated all over the world on December 1.
