Woman arrested for alleged child neglect

The Primrose police apprehended a woman on a charge of child neglect.

Primrose police recently arrested a 29-year-old woman on a charge of child neglect.

The incident was first reported to police by a community leader from the Makause informal settlement.

“He alleged that a passerby brought an eight-month-old child, who was found crawling in the streets, to him,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“He kept the baby overnight and took her to the Primrose Police Station in the morning.”

On the same day, the suspect came to the station and said an unknown man had taken her child away the previous night.

“Police questioned the woman, who allegedly appeared drunk, but she could not explain why the man had taken her child or why she had not reported it sooner,” said Maome.

She was arrested and was held at the Primrose Police Station pending her appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
