Resident concerned over power issues, refuse collection

A local resident is upset over a recent power outage and erratic refuse collection in Delville.

A Delville resident is at his wits’ end with the service delivery from the metro.

When a tree fell on the electricity wires in St Julien Road, residents were left without power for a number of days.

When the tree was removed, the electricity returned to some households within two days and to the rest of the households in three days.

“The fault had a large impact when the line went down in St Julian Road and due to that the power in Germiston was affected,” said Themba Gadebe, the spokesperson of the metro.

However, that was not the only concern for the Delville resident.

Refuse collection should be on Wednesday, but sometimes the rubbish is only collected on a Thursday, Friday or even on a Saturday.

The refuse collection has not been running according to schedule and in the process some residents’ bins have been stolen.

“We have unfortunately been experiencing a huge number of breakdowns at the Germiston depot and apologise to residents for the inconvenience,” said Gadebe.

If your wheelie bin has been stolen you can report the case to your nearest police station and get an affidavit.

You can take the affidavit, along with a copy of your ID, recent lights and water account and go to the Germiston depot to get a new bin.

The Germiston depot is located on the corner of Ostend and Jack Pienaar roads, Germiston South and is open from 7am to 3.30pm from Monday to Friday.
