Print Exclusive: Photographer snaps up award

Germiston High School learner and Katlehong resident Kamohelo Mahlatsi (19) recently won the prestigious #MySA iPhotography category at the annual Excellence in Education Awards.

Kamohelo Mahlatsi (19), a Germiston High School learner and Katlehong resident, has a passion for telling stories and raising awareness through photography.

When the GCN met the young self-taught photographer, who works under the pseudonym Groovy Kamo (GCN October 20), he explained that the opportunity to pursue his love of photography fell into his lap in 2016.

“A group of friends, who were musicians, needed someone to help shoot their videos and promotional photos, and being interested in photography I said I’d do it,” Kamohelo said.

“My passion just grew from there.”

Recently Kamohelo’s passion was rewarded when he won the Grade Eight to 12 division of the prestigious #MySA iPhotography category at the annual Excellence in Education Awards.
