Community taught what to do when faced with gender-based violence

Primrose police visited Makause informal settlement to tackle gender-based violence and educate the community.

Officers from the Primrose Police Station recently went door-to-door in the Makause informal settlement to address gender-based violence in the area.

The officers were helped in their efforts by members of the Primrose SAPS Crime Prevention Youth Desk.

“During the campaign officers and youth desk members listened to the concerns of community members and the challenges they face,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Over 300 safety tip pamphlets were handed out during the project.

“The safety tips included how to deal with and what to do in the face of domestic violence and sexual offences,” said Maome.

“We hope community members will take the safety tips to heart in their time of need.”
