LamDel RA aims to clean up the neigbourhood

LamDel Residents Association (RA) held a successful neighbourhood clean-up last Saturday at the intersection of Webber and Beacon roads.

Members of LamDel Residents Association (RA) braved the heat last Saturday to help make a difference in their community.

The organisation held a neighbourhood clean-up at the intersection of Webber and Beacon roads.

“It was boiling hot, but definitely worth it,” said Lornette Joseph, LamDel RA chairperson.

“We understand completely how difficult it is for the metro to keep every street and every intersection clean.

“This is our neighbourhood and we live here – so why not help with the clean-up.”

The organisation believes that projects like this help instill a love and sense of pride in the community, especially when everyone gets involved and does their bit.

“Not only do projects like this show our passion and love for our suburb and community, but it shows that we care about our environment,” said Lornette.

“It instills a sense of pride in where you live, knowing that for just a little while that corner or spot was clean because of you.”

LamDel RA has already begun planning for the next event.

“We have scheduled a neighbourhood clean-up to take place on the third Saturday of every month, weather permitting,” said Lornette.

“The only time this may change is in December, where we will move the clean-up earlier in the month and January where we may move the clean-up later in the month.

“The next clean-up will be held on November 16.

“The entire community, all residents and businesses, are invited to come along and pitch in.”

LamDel RA will communicate the dates of upcoming clean-up projects on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/LamDelRA/), as well as various WhatsApp groups.

“As LamDel RA is a registered non-profit organisation, we encourage schoolchildren, especially those in high school, to earn their community service points with us,” said Lornette.

“It might be work, but it is great fun and you get to meet members of your community.”
