When asked why they had made the decision to sponsor her, Jurgens Bekker explained.

“We decided to sponsor Gumede because she has such a special gift as an athlete and we feel that with the right support and help she can one day become an international athlete and star,” Bekker said.

“We are inspired by Gumede’s story and we believe she will be an inspiration to many others.

“We will follow her career with keen interest and we will see how we can support her now and in the future.

“We want to make sure she also performs well in her school work and that she can perform well academically so that she can one day pursue any career and possibly also go to university.”

Gumede plans to keep competing as long as she can, always aiming to better her last time and keep up her fitness and stamina.

“I hope one day to compete in the Olympics,” said Gumede.
