Breakfast spoils for senior citizens

Elderly residents were visited by members of ANC Ekurhuleni caucus.

Senior citizens from Kruinhof Retirement Village in Elandsfontein enjoyed a wonderful morning last Thursday when they were treated to breakfast.

The breakfast, held at the village, was hosted by the deputy chief whip of the ANC Ekurhuleni caucus Clr Ebrahim Motara, together with Ward 92 councillor candidate Harold Thomas.

The pensioners were spoilt with a well-cooked breakfast and some were visited in their homes at the village.

During the breakfast, the senior citizens were given the opportunity to raise some service-delivery issues as tenants.

An 80-year-old pensioner Martha Scheepers expressed her excitement and thanked the ANC Ekurhuleni caucus for visiting them.

“It is for the first time that we have received a visit from any political party.

“I am very happy that the ANC government has visited us and we can now confidently say our issues will be heard.

“Thank you for the delicious breakfast too,” said Scheepers, who has been staying at the village for 12 years.

Motara used the opportunity to introduce the Ward 92 councillor candidate to the pensioners.

“The councillor we bring in is from this ward and lives among you.

“The Ward 92 councillor candidate, if given the opportunity, will be expected to call monthly meetings and assist and address all service-delivery issues in the ward by filing a service to the office of the chief whip about all the issues that are raised in the community,” Motara said.

“A report is then given to the metro’s executive to address the issues, but most importantly, a ward councillor must always be available to his/her constituents.”

The residents of Ward 92 will be casting their votes in the by-elections on the October 23.
