Man allegedly steals copper from employer

Elsburg SAPS apprehended a man on a charge of theft recently.

While on a routine patrol in Wadeville recently, officers from the Elsburg Police Station were called to a local scarpyard.

“When they arrived at the scrapyard, the manager explained he had allegedly caught one of the employees stealing copper,” explained Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.

“He said he had become suspicious of the man when he noticed him carrying a large bucket out of the premises during working hours.

“The employee allegedly confessed to the crime and was handed over to police.”

The man was arrested on a charge of theft and the 15kg of copper in his possession confiscated.

He will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
