Ekurhuleni West Cluster detains 101 suspects

Joint operations among 12 police stations across the metro see 101 perpetrators jailed.

Ekurhuleni West Cluster police officials arrested 101 suspects in their 12 policing areas last weekend.

Suspects were arrested during daily operations, which included Operation Okae Molao, a combined operation with the EMPD.

The suspects nabbed during these operations were charged for various offences such as possession of suspected stolen property, fraud, common assault, theft of a motor vehicle, theft out of a motor vehicle, sexual assault, the contravening of a court order, murder, negligent handling of a firearm, child abuse, house break-in and theft, robbery of a motor vehicle, drug possession, dealing in drugs and driving under the influence of alcohol.

“Many motorists were issued with traffic fines for defaulting on the Road Traffic Act, while other vehicles had their licence discs removed after the vehicles were inspected and found to be unroadworthy,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg police.

“All arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Germiston, Vosloorus, and Palm Ridge magistrate’s courts soon.”
