Welcome donation for local school brings smiles

Johnson Matthey helps children this Mandela Day.

Children from Othandweni Crèche and Day Care Centre, located in the heart of the Marathon informal settlement in Primrose, will nap easier now.

The little ones were delighted when the school was presented with a donation of 40 mattresses, 40 blankets, clothes and toys on Thursday in celebration of Mandela Day.

They were previously napping on the floor.

The donation came from Germiston South-based company, Johnson Matthey.

Sharon Viljoen, office manager for Johnson Matthey, said staff members got together and organised the donation of clothes for the children.

Along with Viljoen, the school was visited by Jason Abbott (managing director), Ndima Rawana (human resources director) and Tobeka Xoko (social worker), as well as other staff members from the company.

Primrose SAPS members also came along to join in the festivities, as did Ward 93 Clr Geoffrey Mthembu.

Owner of the school Margaret Machi told the GCN the school was opened in 2003 and caters for 150 children.

“I want to cry; I am so happy to receive this donation,” Margaret said.

Johnson Matthey is extremely active in the Germiston community, offering assistance to communities in need.
