Suspect killed during shoot-out with police

Wanted suspect fatally wounded during a shootout with police in Katlehong.

A 41-year-old man was fatally wounded during a shoot-out with police in Katlehong, last Saturday.

The shoot-out took place when officers responded to a tip-off from the community.

“Police received information about a man who was pointing a firearm at one of the residents of Katlehong and responded swiftly,” explained Capt Mega Ndobe, communications officer for the Katlehong police.

“As officers approached the suspect on the scene, he started shooting at them.

“A shoot-out between police and the suspect ensued and the man was fatally shot.

“None of the police officers were injured.”

Further investigation revealed that the suspect was wanted for several charges, including murder, attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and arson.

“The unlicensed firearm used by the suspect during the shoot-out was sent for ballistic testing to establish if it had been used during the commission of other crimes,” said Ndobe.
