EMPD pounces on alleged robbers after theft at Germiston Waste Depot

The depot was robbed of a number of items.

EMPD members arrested three people last Monday in connection with the theft of goods from the metro’s Germiston Waste Depot.

The Germiston Waste Depot was robbed of items, including vehicle tyres, office furniture, fridges, microwaves and other valuable items, last Sunday.

Upon further investigation, the EMPD uncovered that the suspects worked for a security company, which is also a registered service provider of the metro.

The metro is currently studying the contract it holds with the service provider and has suspended all business with the company.

Appropriate legal action will be taken against the company, without fear or favour.

“The metro will not be associated with criminals.

“Last year we launched Operation O Kae Molao with the intent of cracking down on crime within the metro.

“We are now currently moving towards making weekly arrests of internal and external acts of crime in our metro,” said Clr Mzwandile Masina, executive mayor of Ekurhuleni.

“Service providers must be warned that they are appointed to provide a service that is supposed to uplift communities in Ekurhuleni.

“Our stance remains the same, no acts of crime will be tolerated by the metro.

“We hope the courts make an example of these individuals, so any other service providers who have ideas of robbing the City, think twice.”

The suspects are being held at the Germiston Police Station and their appearance in court is yet to be confirmed.
