Germiston High suffers 12-32 defeat in semi-finals

A disappointed Atlehang Mokutsu, captain of the Germiston High School u-16 rugby team, said it’s back to the drawing board for his team.

After only two years of playing rugby, Germiston High School’s u-16 rugby team made it to the semi-finals of the schools’ rugby season where they faced Vorentoe High School.

Germiston High welcomed Vorentoe to their turf, and proved to be quite a strong team while looking for a spot in the finals.

Tumisang Segodi from Germiston High School took a hard knock from a Vorentoe High School player in a recent semi-final match played at Germiston High School.

Unfortunately, Vorentoe was seeking to redeem themselves this year after they suffered a harsh defeat against Germiston in the 2018 season.

Despite personally having a great game Atlehang Mokutsu, captain of the Germiston High team, told the GCN his team had not been playing cohesively in the last few games of the season, which is why they were on a losing streak.

Germiston High School’s Siyabonga Madonsela charges towards his Vorentoe High School opponents with vigour in a semi-final match recently played in Germiston.

“We need to go back to basics,” he said.

“We need to go back and learn how to catch, learn how to throw and to play as a solid team again.”

The final score was 12-32 in favour of Vorentoe.

“I am very proud of how far the boys have come and it was an honour to reach the semi-finals after only two years of playing rugby,” said Germiston High’s coach John de Matos.
