ALERT: Motorists urged to avoid N3 south highway after multi-vehicle collision

Nine dead and several seriously injured in N3 highway multi-vehicle collision.

William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), has confirmed that the N3 South is closed to traffic following a multi-vehicle collision near the Barry Marais off-ramp.

Speaking from the scene, which is still active, Ntladi explained that six trucks and four light motor vehicles (including a taxi and bakkie) were involved in the accident.

“Nine people have been declared dead, while 14 patients have been transported to various hospitals with serious injuries,” Ntladi said.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area.

“We are diverting traffic from the Leondale Road off-ramp,” Ntladi said.

Emergency services are still on scene.
