Elsburg wins 50-0 against long-time rivals Edenvale

Local rugby rivals face off in tough Kestrel League match.

The Kestrel League is well underway and local team Elsburg Rugby Club seems geared up for the season ahead.

Coming back from a fantastic win against Katlehong Rugby Club, Elsburg stepped onto the field at the Elspark Sports Complex, ready to put their long-time rivals, Edenvale Rugby Club, to the test, last Saturday.

Elsburg’s Boeries Venter scored the first try in the fourth minute of the first half and the trusted goal-kicker Rudi Wessels added another two points to the scoreboard with a conversion.

Long-time rivals Elsburg Rugby Club and Edenvale Rugby Club clashed in a Kestrel League encounter last Saturday, in which Elsburg won 50-0 at the Elspark Sports Complex.

In the 10th minute Elsburg was awarded a penalty.

Daniell du Preez added five points to the scoreboard with a try in the 15th minute and Wessels completed the conversion.

A scoreless Edenvale put up a gruelling fight, however, their attacks were met by a resilient Elsburg team.

 

In a scrum in the 30th minute, Ratko Brits did a breakaway and carried the ball over to William van der Heever, who ran successfully to the try-line, adding another five points for the team.

The fast play seemed to have motivated Venter to score his second try and fellow teammate Marinus van Vuuren to score another, within two minutes.

Wessels added another two points to the scoreboard with a stellar goal-kick.

The half-time score was 36-0.

In the second half Venter scored another two tries.

Elsburg won the match 50-0.

The man of the match titles were awarded to Brits who plays left forward and Wessels right backline.

In a friendly match, Elsburg’s second team also faced Edenvale and won the match 40-12.
