“The baby was taken to Bertha Gxowa Hospital for treatment before he was taken to a place of safety for the night,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“The following morning when the child was taken to social development for placement the social workers recognised him.”

They explained to police that a 30-year-old woman had brought the baby to them, last Friday, alleging someone had left him at a local clinic.

“The woman further alleged she could not care for the baby as she was leaving for Zimbabwe.

“The social workers advised her to bring the child back on Monday, but she never came,” said Maome.
