Tip-off leads to arrest of alleged Sassa scammers

Swift work leads to arrest of two alleged scammers.

Sgt Shashapa Mokoena and Const Matome Khosa from the Ekurhuleni Flying Squad (Germiston) arrested two alleged Sassa scammers, at 1pm, last Saturday, on the N3 highway towards Durban.

The officers were conducting a routine patrol on the highway when they received a tip-off from national crime intelligence members that they had been following a silver Toyota Fortuner, with Gauteng registration plates, from Randburg, but had lost sight of it on the N3.

The Ekurhuleni Flying Squad (Germiston) officers spotted a vehicle fitting the description passing a petroport in the direction of Durban on the N3.

They swiftly got the driver of the Fortuner to stop.

The vehicle had two occupants inside it.

“When the officers asked about the vehicle, the suspects alleged that they had hired the Fortuner and it belonged to one of the car rental agencies at OR Tambo International Airport,” said Const Ntombikayise Ngcobo, communications officer for the Ekurhuleni Flying Squad (Germiston).
