Community Market Day, the perfect event to showcase hand-made crafts.

AK Events hosted a colourful Community Market Day recently at The Reef Shopping Centre.

The market featured 30 stalls with an array of items for sale.

Among the marketers was Errol Mckay who brought out characterised mugs, Maggie Botha who displayed her miniature Barbie furniture, while stock-car racer Jakobus van Straaten also made an appearance, adding vibrancy to the day.

“We are looking forward to making this a monthly event,” said Amanda van Straaten of AK Events.

“Locals should join in the fun and we hope their attendance encourages other hand-crafters to arrange for their stalls to be added to the market, adding to the variety of items that can go on sale.”

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) opened their station early on the day and locals and store employees pledged to donate blood, for the greater good.

Thokozani Ntshakala (enrolled registered nurse), Thulani Ndaba (donor attendant), Nerine Nel (phlebotomist) and Zanele Zweni (donor recruiter) ensured donors were well informed on their decision and assisted donors throughout the entire process.

A few prospective donors were unable to donate due to health restrictions, however, a few others like Itumeleng Shaku, a repeat donor, looked forward to the donation.
