Cross-cultural comedy explosion to hit the Mardi Gras Theatre

Carnival City to host fun-filled comedy evening.

A cross-cultural stand-up comedy explosion is about to hit Carnival City.

Unleashing their crazy blend of comedy at the Mardi Gras Theatre on February 23 for a one-night only show, Charous and Bruinous Comedy, stand-up comics and viral video stars Masood Boomgaard and Bash with Tash, who collectively have earned millions of views on social media platforms and played to packed houses across the country, will perform alongside national comic heavyweights Joey Rasdien and Dillan Oliphant.

Together, the comedians will take the audience on a hilarious cultural adventure, tapping into their experiences growing up in Indian and coloured communities in different parts of South Africa, telling laugh out loud funny anecdotes about overbearing parents, drunk uncles and downright crazy grandparents.

Joey Rasdien will be thrilling fans in Charous and Bruinous at Carnival City’s Mardi Gras Theatre on February 23.

The show will also be peppered with great gags on everyday things like relationships, the economy, politics and social media.

There’s bound to be something for everyone.

Fresh from his recent tours of Australia, Dubai and the UK, Durbanite Masood Boomgaard is best known for his unique comedic take on current affairs and trends, tackling a variety of topics from politics and sport to the economy and relationships.

He often also uses the stage to reflect on his childhood and experiences growing up in a mixed-race family.

Look out for his spot-on impersonations of the likes of Donald Trump.

Boomgaard has performed with some of the best in the business across the country and has a few solo shows under his belt.

His most recent, Joker, has been released on DVD.

He also recently appeared on Comedy Central.

He recently performed his show African Indian on London’s West End and received rave reviews.

Bash with Tash, real name Natashia Portrag, shot to fame in December 2016 when she spontaneously uploaded a comic commentary by herself on Facebook which soared to hundreds of thousands of views.

Subsequent videos only heightened her popularity and now she has legions of fans locally and abroad in places such as Australia and the UK.

Dillan Oliphant will be taking to the stage in Charous and Bruinous at Carnival City’s Mardi Gras Theatre on February 23.

Bash with Tash is best known for her incredible ability to improvise on stage and crowd interaction.

Her spontaneity ensures that no two shows are the same.

Eldorado Park local Dillan Oliphant needs little introduction to comedy fans.

He regularly appears on Comedy Central, has toured international comedy festivals and his one-man special The Oliphant in the Room received praise and acclaim.

And last but not least, Joey Rasdien needs no introduction to comedy audiences.

A certified legend, Joey has been setting SA comedy stages alight for almost two decades and is considered a pioneering figure in the industry.

He has performed multiple specials, including Mixed DNA, Evolved and Basic.

He has appeared on television and in movies and is a regular on Comedy Central.

Charous and Bruinous Comedy is a pulsating cultural comedy experience not to be missed.

The show takes place at 8pm.
