Super League’s pre-season friendly matches test players’ skills

Germiston City’s two sides prepare for upcoming Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League season.

The Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League pre-season is well underway.

The ELFA season is set to kick off in March and with only a month left to the start of the season, coaches are getting their stars ready.

“We are currently developing two sides for the Super League season,” said Peter Oliver, Germiston City Football Club chairperson.

Germiston City Football Club’s reserve and first team travelled to Olympia Football Club’s turf on the weekend for their first pre-season friendly.

Though they lost, the first team showed some very good prospects, coming from a 0-3 lashing to ending the game at 2-3.

The reserve team scored a 1-0 victory against Olympia’s reserves.

The pre-season tournament carries on this week, with Germiston City facing Zwide FC and Olympia FC facing Linhill Celtic FC.

“The juniors have commenced training as well,” Oliver added.

“The u-12 to u-17 teams train on a Monday and Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm, whilst the seniors practise on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5.45pm to 7.30pm.”
