Athletes charge back into action

Central Gauteng Athletics hosted their first track and field meeting of 2019 at Germiston Stadium.

Athletes from across Gauteng travelled to Germiston Stadium, last Saturday, to compete in the Central Gauteng Athletics’ (CGA) first track and field meeting for 2019.

The tough competition saw junior and senior athletes not only competing against each other but taking on the heat and swarms of bugs.

“We hosted a very successful league meeting with over 300 athletes competing.

“This was the first league for 2019 and athletes were eager to compete,” said Mandla Radebe on behalf of GCA.

The meeting gave athletes a chance to hone their skills in preparation for future championships.

“Athletes hoped to impress at the meeting to improve their chances of being selected to represent the province at the South Africa Championships which will be held in April, as well as for the South African team to compete at international championships held later in the year,” said Radebe.

A number of athletes from Germiston’s local athletics clubs, namely Germiston Callies Harriers and Diamond Athletics Club, competed at the event.
