Alleged armed robbers caught in Primrose

One shot in Primrose following alleged armed robbery, four arrested.

Primrose police arrested four suspects, between the ages of aged 24 and 32, on Wednesday for an alleged armed robbery which happened in Rietfontein Road.

The police were attending to a scene of the theft of a motor vehicle in Shamrock Road when four men came running towards them, and they heard bystanders shouting “they have a firearm”.

The officers stopped the men and one suspect drew a firearm and pointed it at the police officers, who quickly retaliated and shot the suspect in the upper body.

Upon investigation, the gun used by the suspect was found to be fake.

Primrose police seized a vehicle belonging to alleged armed robbers following their arrest on Wednesday.

“It was later discovered two employees from a local company were about to deposit money at a bank situated on Rietfontein Road when a man approached them and demanded the money,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“It is alleged the passenger window of the vehicle they were in was open while the two were writing in the deposit book and the perpetrator pointed a firearm at them and took the money.
