St Catherine’s class of 2018 celebrates

St Catherine’s School celebrates as Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matric results are released.

Many private school learners waited in anticipation to get their Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matric results, which were released at midnight on Thursday, and the learners of Parkhill Gardens’ St Catherine’s School were no exception.

The class of 2018 maintained the fine academic tradition the school has come to expect from its learners.

Thirty-three learners sat for the final examinations and once again achieved a 100 per cent pass rate, building on a proud tradition which has become firmly entrenched at the school.

Of the 33 candidates 28 (or 85 per cent) achieved university exemption, which qualifies them to enter a university to pursue tertiary studies, with the remaining 15 per cent of the learners receiving a diploma pass, which allows them to apply for admission to other institutions of higher learning.

The school’s top achieving learners were head girl Hannah Wedel, senior prefect Ntokozo Hlophe and Xe’nedra De Almeida.

All three learners achieved two distinctions each,  Wedel for accounting and computer application technology (CAT), Hlophe for accounting and isiZulu and De Almeida for English and life orientation.

Wedel and Hlophe intend to continue their academic careers at university this year, with Wedel undecided on what she will be studying and Hlophe looking forward to studying accounting.

Senior prefect and St Catherine’s School learner Ntokozo Hlophe achieved two distinctions in accounting and isiZulu.

Speaking after the release of the results, head of the school, Dennis Maritz, congratulated the senior school principal, Joanne Crosby, and her team of teachers on a job well done.

“We are constantly striving to implement strategies which will ensure that our school’s results will continue to improve and provide learners with the best possible opportunities for post-school studies,” he said.
