Pensioner plans Christmas party for underprivileged children

The children from Siyabonga Children’s Home were happy when a special Christmas party was held for them.

Eighty-one-year-old Ouma B (Beryl Schaupp) is happy after bringing cheer to children this festive season.

The idea to host a Christmas party for the children at Siyabonga Children’s Home came after the pensioner bought some wool and crocheted beanies and sold them.

With the money she bought fruit for underprivileged children and then after selling some more she bought cold drinks.

When she won a bit money gambling she thought what better way to give back than by bringing Christmas joy to children.

She settled on the idea of spoiling the children from Siyabonga and from there the party started to take shape.

William von Vught came on board to assist, as did Charles Prinsloo, the owner of a local pharmacy, and Murphy’s Pub and Grill.

Beryl’s daughter Ingrid Winsper organised a beautiful Christmas tree and decorations, as well as a Father Christmas suit and a number of motorcyclists agreed to pay the party a visit to the delight of the children.

They also donated plastic ride-on motorcycles to the children.

The party was held last Thursday at Murphy’s and Beryl said the children were thrilled and had a great time.

Geldhof came on board and donated chocolates which were raffled to raise funds to buy the children shoes, socks and clothes.

“The day was a great success and I am pleased the children had a good time,” Beryl said.
