Update: Primrose residents still in the dark as more power problems arise

Residents have been hit with more problems related to their power.

Although power to the affected streets in Primrose was restored in the early hours of Friday morning, residents in the area then experienced another problem.

Johan La Grange said, “Since the power was restored at 4am on Friday, we have more problems.

“Apparently they replaced or repaired the transformer with a setting of 280v instead of 240v.

“This caused our whole street’s appliances to blow.

“We are hoping the municipality will rectify this as soon as possible as we are now incurring more costs and damages.”

Danielle de Wet echoed Johan’s sentiments and added that she was extremely worried that her appliances would blow while she was at work as she was not at home to switch everything off.

Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan told the GCN that work to rectify the new problem started late on Friday afternoon.

Power to the streets was switched off once again.

“The energy department said that once they had established what the problem was work would commence,” Wendy said.

“At first they gave a restoration time of four hours, but this was later changed to 9am on Saturday morning, due to the fact that they need to replace the transformer.”

The GCN contacted the metro for comment on the issue and are awaiting a response.
