Mayor warns public about bogus city inspectors

Ekurhuleni’s executive mayor is warning communities to be on the alert for bogus environmental health inspectors.

Executive mayor of Ekurhuleni Clr Mzwandile Masina has condemned in the strongest possible terms bogus environmental health inspectors who are allegedly going around Ekurhuleni illegally raiding spaza shops under false pretences.

They state that they work for the metro and their activities are sanctioned by the executive mayor.

The mayor has noted with concern the activities of these rogue individuals and thereports of theft from some spaza shops by the bogus inspectors.

Masina reiterated that the metro’s environmental health practitioners would not steal from residents.

Residents are further informed that the metro’s environmental health practitioners are issued with identity cards that bear the photos of the concerned practitioners and the telephone number of the office from which a particular inspector is from.

Residents who are accosted by the bogus inspectors can verify the authenticity of so-called practitioners by calling the metro’s Health and Social Development Department offices below, depending on the area the practitioner claims to be from:

• Boksburg and Vosloorus: 011 999 5407.

• Alberton head office: 011 999 2970.

• Kempton Park: 011 999 6461.

• Benoni: 011 999 6431.

• Nigel: 011 999 9258.

• Edenvale: 011 999 3335.

• Alberton and Germiston: 011 999 0347/8 or 011 999 5737 or 011 999 0530.

• Katlehong One and Two and Thokoza: 011 999 2347/8 or 011 999 2466.
