Name the Germiston SPCA’s pig and help raise funds

Help the Germiston SPCA care for animals this festive season by taking part in a fun competition.

With the festive season fast approaching the Germiston SPCA needs the community’s assistance to make sure the influx of animals into the kennels will be cared for.

To this end they will be holding a fun fund-raising competition entitled, Name our Pig, where the community gets to name the pig who lives at the SPCA kennels.

The beautiful large white pig was brought to the Germiston SPCA in June when she was only eight weeks old.

The SPCA had been called to Elandsfontein to investigate a complaint of animal cruelty.

Upon arrival Taryn Bannister, a trainee inspector at the Germiston SPCA, found the little pig tied to a pole by her back hocks.

Jack Levin, the Germiston SPCA’s assistant manager, spends some time with the beautiful pig who lives at the SPCA. You can name her by taking part in the SPCA’s Name our Pig competition.

“She was in the direct sun and was covered in sunburn and mange,” Taryn said.

The pig was surrendered to the SPCA by the owner and she has now grown into a seven-month-old beauty.

Her main caregiver is Solomon Mokgoleng and he makes sure her area (which she shares with two geese, Salt and Pepper) is clean and she has water, food and a nice puddle to splash in.

All the staff at the SPCA love her and she is never short of attention and treats.

Meet the dedicated Germiston SPCA team

Jack Levin, the assistant manager, spends a lot of time playing with her and Burt Coetzee, manager of the Germiston SPCA said they have had many school children and even adults, who have never seen a pig in real life, coming to visit her.

The competition to name her will go a long way in helping her and the rest of the animals at the Germiston SPCA over the festive season.

It is so easy to enter.
