Two men, aged 24 and 26, were arrested while three escaped following an armed robbery at a business in Shamrock Road, in Primrose, on Wednesday (today).
“It is reported that the five suspects, two armed with firearms, entered a store at around 10am and loaded two bags with laptops and cellphones,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
Patrolling officers from the Primrose Police Station were alerted to the robbery by a community member who was passing the store.

“When the suspects saw the police they opened fire and the officers returned fire,” said Maome.
While three of the suspects made their escape in a red Ford Focus, the other two ran down Shamrock Road, towards Delport informal settlement.
“Officers called for backup and officers from the EMPD and JMPD, as well as personnel from Spider Tactical Response, responded to the call,” said Maome.
One of the suspects, who had fled on foot, attempted to escape in a vehicle stopped at the traffic lights.
“The motorist had abandoned the vehicle when he heard the gunfire and saw the suspects running towards him,” said Maome.
“The accused jumped into the vehicle, which was still running, and attempted to drive away toward the Germiston CBD but crashed outside Delport informal settlement.”
