Love, passion and a green thumb

GAFA Protea Old Age Home resident Angela Blagojevic has a picture perfect garden straight out of a magazine.

Angela Blagojevic has been described as having a green thumb, and it shows as a variety of beautiful flowers blossom in her little corner of GAFA Protea Old Age Home.

When asked what’s her secret she gushed, “There is no secret, like with anything in life you just need to have a passion for something and you can make it work.”

Angela moved to the home a year ago and has already transformed the gardens surrounding her little home into what she describes as a little piece of paradise.

“When I arrived last year this area was so dry and dead, it was terrible. I decided I was going to turn it into something wonderful,” she said.

Gardening has always been close to her heart and come rain or shine, summer or winter, Angela enjoys nothing more than tending to and relaxing among the variety of plants that bloom in her garden.

“Gardening really is my passion, I just love gardening and have always loved gardening,” she said proudly.

“In my previous home, I had turned my garden into my own little piece of heaven and have done the same here.”

When asked if she had a favourite plant, Angela couldn’t decide, however, maroon roses do hold a special place in her heart.

“My late mother’s name was Rosa and my maroon roses, which have just finished blooming, remind me of her,” she said.

She is not the only one who enjoys the spoils of her hard work.

“My neighbours all love the garden, with some commenting that it makes them homesick as it reminds them of all of the beautiful flowers in Holland,” Angela explained.

Angela credits her passion and love for gardening for her garden’s beauty.

“When I see my garden in bloom my heart is so happy,” she said.
