Register now for the Joburg Ballet School November auditions

Students for the programme are identified through annual open auditions.

Do you know a child who loves to dance?

Joburg Ballet believes in nurturing new talent in Johannesburg, regardless of background or location, and the company’s development programme includes three satellite schools in Soweto, Alexandra and Braamfontein.

Students for the programme are identified through annual open auditions and registration is now open for this year’s auditions, taking place from November 27 to 29.

Children accepted into the development programme pay a registration fee to cover the cost of their ballet clothing, plus a small fee to attend weekly classes, which will start in January 2019.

The deadline for applications is November 23.

Exceptional students identified during the audition phase also stand a chance to audition for Joburg Ballet School’s accelerated programme.

Classes for all new students take place during weekday afternoons.

“Joburg Ballet School’s passionate students have proved that, with perseverance and regular attendance, they can really develop their talent,” said schools coordinator Keke Chele.

“This year learners from the school have taken part in a number of events, including a special Heritage Day performance for over 600 learners, in association with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jozi Tese Festival, and in Joburg Ballet’s season of The Nutcracker at Joburg Theatre.

“Performances like this allow our students to improve their skills and gain valuable experience on stage.

“We look forward to unearthing more new talent during our November auditions, to join our existing dedicated students in our vocational programme.”

Auditions will take place on November 27 at Uncle Tom’s Hall, Orlando West, Soweto, on November 28 at San Kopano, 12th Avenue, Alexandra, and on November 29 at the National School of the Arts, Hoofd Street, Braamfontein. All start at 3pm.
