Hot weekend results for the Eagles

The cricket season has officially kicked off and the Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club seems to be having a good start in all categories, despite a few losses.

The weather was not the only element serving heat this Sunday at the Elspark Sports Grounds when Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club took on Geluksdal Cricket Club in a fiery Sunday Promotion League match.

Eagles fielded first and Geluksdal set a target of 174 runs in their 50 overs with nine wickets down.

The top bowler for the Eagles was Jacques Jansen van Vuuren with three wickets for 25 runs in nine overs.

The Eagles later took to the crease to bat and made 180 runs with seven wickets down.

This performance secured their three-wicket victory.

The top batsmen were Renier Wiesener with 59 runs and Wesley Lowe with 31 runs.

In the Saturday League, the Eagles faced Bedfordview Cricket Club in what seemed like an easy win for the team.

Eagles batted first and set a target of 261 runs for nine wickets in their 35 overs.

Jacques Jansen van Vuuren with 46 runs and Jason van der Walt with his 31 runs were the top batsmen of the game for the Eagles.

Bedfordview came in to bat and were quickly bowled out with only 89 runs on the board in their 35th over, giving the Eagles a spectacular 172-run victory.

Jeandre Schultz with three wickets for 32 runs in four overs and Brandon Du Plooy with three wickets for 15 runs in 5.2 overs, were the top bowlers of the match for the Eagles.

The club’s Directors League fixture against Alberton proved a more challenging game for the Eagles who took to the pitch to bat first, only managing a target of 157 runs in their 50 overs.

Their opponents came in to bat and passed the set target, making 158 runs with four wickets down.

Alberton won by a six-wicket victory.

The Eagles’ top batsman was Frank Williams with 36 runs.

The top bowler was Frank Williams with two wickets for 21 runs in four overs.
