Primrose police continue to crack down on the illegal sale of alcohol, closing three more illegal taverns in the Makause informal settlement.

The Primrose police recently closed down three illegal taverns and confiscated thousands of litres of alcohol in the Makause informal settlement.

During the operation three suspects, aged between 19 and 31 years old, were arrested and charged with dealing in liquor without a license.

“During a foot patrol in the informal settlement, officers noticed community members purchasing alcohol at three different addresses,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“They stopped at and observed each establishment for a while before entering and asking each establishment’s owner for their liquor licence.”

When the owners were unable to provide police with their licences they were arrested, charged with dealing in liquor without a licence, and their tavern closed down.

All of the arrested suspects were taken to the Primrose Police Station and were released on a warning after paying admission of guilt fines.

The alcohol confiscated from the taverns will be destroyed.
