Triumph for young Hazeldene angler

Sylvie Richards recently achieved accolades for her angling skill.

Hazeldene’s young angler Sylvie Richards is continuing to carve a way for herself in the sport of angling.

After having received provincial colours in December, last year, Sylvie Richards was nominated for the SAFBAF u-13 girls’ team for 2018 and was invited to the South African Freshwater Bank Angling Federation (SAFBAF) October tour 2018.

Sylvie battled it out for three days, in the harshest conditions ever experienced; from green sludge clinging to the line and making it a challenge to successfully net a fish, to sudden a sudden drop in the temperature due to an unexpected cold front and blistering cold winds.

The elements brought in the extra handicap and really tested the anglers’ abilities.

In spite of the challenges, Sylvie rose to the challenge and achieved third place in the individual reserve competition, winning her zone on day two, as well as achieving bronze (third place) with the u-13 girls’ team.

This third-placed position was a huge surprise for everyone as it was the first time the girls’ team had ever placed.

Sylvie is now preparing for the All Transvaal competition to be held soon where she will be angling with the u-19 young ladies team, and thereafter the December 2018 South Africa Angling Championships in Bloemhoff.
