The Primrose SAPS are investigating cases of armed robbery and attempted murder.

A 50-year-old man was shot and the gold he was transporting stolen after a shootout ensued in Marlands on Thursday.

The Primrose SAPS are investigating cases of armed robbery and attempted murder.

The drama unfolded when the victim was driving from Pretoria to a company in Primrose to deliver a box of gold.

“It is alleged that as the victim got off the N12 highway the suspects followed him and started to shoot at him while he was driving in Kraft Road to force him to stop,” said Capt André de Jager, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni West Cluster SAPS.

“The victim managed to drive away from the suspects but on the corner of Fourth Avenue and First Street the suspects shot the wheels of the bakkie and the victim was forced to stop.”

One of the suspects allegedly jumped out of their car, a silver Mercedes Benz, and ran towards the victim’s vehicle still shooting at it.

“The suspect then went to the passenger side of the vehicle and took out the box containing the gold bars worth an undisclosed amount of money and left the scene,” said de Jager.

“Emergency personnel were called to the scene and the victim was taken to Union Hospital in Alberton with serious wounds but in a stable condition.”
