Kabesa confident and ready to defend his title

Germiston fighter Igeu Kabesa will headline EFC 74 on Saturday at Carnival City.

Lambton-raised Igeu ‘Smiley’ Kabesa is ready for action in the EFC 74 hexagon, where he will be defending his featherweight title against Scotland’s Calum Murrie.

The event takes place at Carnival City on Saturday.

Kabesa is described as an athletic genius who entered the EFC with an unblemished amateur MMA record and went on a tear in the organisation, winning six lightweight fights in spectacular fashion.

In his seventh EFC fight, he managed the biggest achievement in his martial arts career, capturing the EFC featherweight World championship title, beating Scotland’s Danny Henry.

The GCN spoke to Kabesa, whose family is from the Congo, before the fight.

“I have been fighting for a good eight years now and train in both Alberton and Elsburg,” he said.

When asked about his opponent Kabesa he said: “I have never faced him before but I cannot wait to get into the hexagon.”

“I know a lot about him and his fighting style and I am not worried at all.”

Kabesa’s opponent Murrie, a teammate and training partner of former champion Henry, is also eager for the pair’s fight.

“My team has beaten Kabesa before and I will do it again.

“I will be the EFC featherweight champion,” he said.
