Double win for Luso

Luso Africa Football Club walked away the winners of their Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League cup and weekly fixtures.

It was a busy week for Luso Africa Football Club, with a home cup match last Thursday, and a home league match last Saturday, both as part of the Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League.

The cup match played at Hattingh Park saw Luso’s first team playing host to Sporting Football Club and the second team facing Boksburg Football Club.

The first teams’ clash was a tightly contested affair but Luso was the first to put some points on the scoreboard with a goal from a penalty by Leandro De Abreu.

However, the visitors quickly replied and scored an equaliser before heading into half-time.

Moments into the second half, De Abreu scored his second goal of the match, from yet another penalty.

Sporting helped edge Luso further into the lead when an error led to an own goal, leaving the score 3-1 in the home side’s favour.

Sporting, however, fought back and managed to score another goal before the final whistle, but it was too little too late.

Luso will progress to the cup semi-finals after their 3-2 victory.

In the second teams’ match, Luso had a hard time finding the back of the net squandering a number of opportunities.

Donovan Thompson finally scored the match’s opening goal midway through the first half.

In the second half Luso’s defence was well organised and Boksburg showed very little threat despite Luso missing numerous chances.

The match ended in a 1-0 victory for Luso, allowing them to progress to the semi-finals.

Last Saturday Luso’s first and second teams faced Randburg in their weekly Super League fixture.

The matches were a must-win for both teams as the first team looked to extend their lead over Randburg and the second team, who are currently sitting second in the log standings behind Benoni Northerns Football Club, aimed to stay in the title race.

The first teams’ match was a tight contest before the first whistle as only one point separated the teams in the log standings.

Neither team wanted to give anything away and things looked even heading into half-time with no points of the scoreboard.

In the second half, the game opened up a little more and both teams started applying pressure, searching for the winning goal.

Luso’s Yannick Beyouma scored the match’s only goal very late in the second half, from a free kick taken by Clayton Botha, securing victory for the club.

The win puts Luso four points clear at the top of the log with five games to go.

Luso’s second team started their game well and looked to be on top of things from the first whistle.

The team kept possession of the ball and were rewarded with an early goal from Donovan Thompson.

This was followed by a number of missed opportunities before Thompson scored the second goal of the match.

The teams headed into half-time with Luso in the lead.

The second half was much of the same with Luso missing chances, which allowed Randburg to sneak in a goal.

However, the visitors were unable to do much more and the match ended 2-1 in Luso’s favour giving them three valuable points.

The team will now need to win their five remaining matches to win the league.
