Children taught the ins-and-outs of a hospital

Children from Fairyland Crèche learn more about what happens behind the scenes at Life Roseacres Hospital.

Life Roseacres Hospital played host to a lively group of learners from Fairyland Crèche on Thursday.

The children, who were visibly excited, were invited to learn more about the ins-and-outs of hospital life with a special tour around the hospital.

The tour started in the reception area where the learners were met by nursing manager Nashira Cevikmen and Medirest Rusty the Rhino who welcomed everyone.\

Unit manager Sr Annelie Bates then took the reins and showed the learners the casualty unit and explained what goes on in there after handing out surgical masks and theatre caps for the children to wear.

Next, the group visited the pharmacy and Dr Lourens Rothmann, who gave a short explanation about what the pharmacy is and its function within the hospital, before handing out syringes with condensed milk as a treat.

During the tour, the group also visited the paediatric ward, maternity ward, theatre and surgical ward.

Before they received snack packs and headed home, the children received vital safety tips from Sr DK Koto and a special handwashing demonstration from Sr Doreen Seopa, the infection prevention specialist.
