Watch: Protestors descend on Germiston demanding permanent jobs

EMPD watchful as protestors take to the Germiston CBD.

Traffic in the Germiston CBD is currently being affected due to a protest march taking place in the city.

The protestors are demanding to speak to the metro’s mayor, Mzwandile Masina, the city manager, Dr Imogen Mashazi and the HOD of the metro’s Department of Solid Waste.

Protestors demand permanent jobs.

The protestors claim that they have been in contact with the metro since February with regard to making their jobs permanent and have contacted all the relevant people to no avail.

The protestors converged on the Germiston Civic Centre on Thursday morning to have their demands heard.

They then left the civic centre and began to march in President Street.

EMPD officers are monitoring the situation.

More information will follow when it becomes available.

People travelling in the CBD could experience traffic delays due to the protest action.

Germiston CBD is the host of another protest today.
