Man ordered to leave vehicle and run by alleged hijackers

Primrose police arrest one man on a charge of hijacking, search for another two suspects.

Officers from the Primrose police arrested a 37-year-old man on a charge of hijacking last Saturday.

The alleged hijacking took place outside the Delport informal settlement and was reported to police by the vehicle’s owner.

“The man told officers that he had been in the Germiston CBD buying drinks from a local shop.

“It was there he was approached by three men, including the arrested suspect, who asked him to drive them to the informal settlement for a fee,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The victim told police that he drove them to the Delport informal settlement entrance.

“When he stopped the vehicle he claimed the man sitting behind him got out of the vehicle and pointed a firearm at him.

“The two men, who remained in the vehicle, allegedly searched him,” said Maome.

He further explained that the accused then opened the vehicle’s door and ordered him to run fast into a nearby wooded area.

“The victim did as he was told and heard the vehicle driving away,” said Maome.

Officers launched an investigation into the matter and soon made an arrest.

The suspect has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for a bail application.

Police continue to search for the remaining suspects.
