Germiston give it their all in Super League fixture

Germiston City Football Club were unable to break through a well-disciplined Kempton Park Football Club defence in the teams’ Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League clash.

Germiston City Sports Club was a hive of activity on Saturday afternoon as supporters watched the Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League clash between Germiston City Football Club and a well-disciplined Kempton Park Football Club.

“Kempton’s league position shows no justice to how disciplined this side is,” commented Germiston’s chairperson Peter Oliver.

Coming off a win against the Katlehong-based Zwide Football Club, Germiston were eager to add another win to their roster, however, it wasn’t to be as Kempton, playing some very attractive and well-orchestrated football, applied pressure from the kick-off.

Despite the onset of pressure Germiston’s defence held firm for most of the first-half with some good tackles coming in from Tshepo Moeketsi, and strong central defence from Dembi Maimela.

In the 44th minute of the first half Germiston forced a corner which was taken by Maimela.

Sadly he was unable to turn the opportunity into a goal and Kempton were able to regain possession of the ball.

The visiting team were able to score just before the half-time whistle taking them into a 1-0 lead over Germiston.

During the half-time break coach Sreten Pavlovic made two changes to the home side’s midfield.

The changes helped Germiston pick up their game in the second half allowing them to put pressure on Kempton’s defence, but still the team were unable to find the back of the net.

The club battled on and came close to scoring on a number of occasions but still the goals eluded them.

With 15 minutes left on the clock Kempton were able to score their second goal of the match securing them a 2-0 victory.

“Despite the result it was a very entertaining and well-played game,” said Oliver.
