Woman allegedly raped by man who promised employment

The Primrose police apprehended a 28-year-old man after he allegedly raped a woman from Limpopo.

The Primrose police recently arrested a 28-year-old man from the Makause informal settlement, on a charge of rape.

The man was arrested after the victim opened a case against him at the Primrose Police Station.

“The young woman from Limpopo told officers that she had met the suspect after he promised her a job,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

She further explained that she had first heard about the alleged job opportunity from a friend who had seen it on Facebook.

“The complainant alleged that she called the number her friend had given her and spoke to the suspect who confirmed that he needed someone to come and work for him as a shop assistant.

“She claimed that the suspect even requested to speak to her parents to assure them that she would have work when she arrived in Primrose,” said Maome.

However, after meeting the man in Shamrock Road, he took her to a shack in the Makause informal settlement where he allegedly slapped her, threw her on the bed, and raped her.

“He then allegedly locked her in the shack after the incident.

“While in the shack, she found his ID book and sent a photo of it, as well as what had happened to her to her uncle in Limpopo,” said Maome.

The victim claimed the accused returned fuming and demanded to know why she had contacted her uncle.

“He threw her out of the shack and she fled to the Primrose Police Station,” said Maome.

Police arrested the suspect and he was held at the Primrose Police Station.

“We are appealing to the community not to trust all information they receive on social media as some may be scams.

“We encourage everyone to verify all the information they receive,” said Maome.

He has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for a bail application.
