Rotary Anns honour Mandela

The Germiston Rotary Anns joined the Germiston Salvation Army in delivering a hot meal to the homeless of Germiston.

The Germiston Rotary Anns joined the Germiston Salvation Army in their plight to feed and offer some relief to those living on the streets.

On Thursday the Germiston Citadel Home League Ladies prepared stew and rice, with groceries donated by the Rotary Anns for Mandela Day, and a team hit the streets of Germiston to distribute the food to those who need it most.

In addition to the food, the Rotary Anns helped pack bags with some warm clothes and a few necessities which were also handed out to the homeless.

“The conditions under which these homeless people sleep are horrendous.

“Things many of us take for granted daily are luxuries for many of them,” said Germiston Rotary Anns president Lyn Opie.

“The Salvation Army hand out food and, when they have it, clothing on Thursday and Sunday evenings.”

“We were very honoured to be involved in this evening and we will help again whenever possible.

“It truly opens one’s eyes and hearts when you see how some people have to live,” said Lyn.
