Care Bear Gauteng determined to help babies in need

Care Bear Gauteng Safe House for Abandoned and Abused Babies and Toddlers, in Elsburg, unveil baby drop box.

The beginning of an exciting new chapter for Care Bear Gauteng Safe House for Abandoned and Abused Babies and Toddlers, in Elsburg, started last Saturday when they officially opened their baby drop box.

The facility situated on Joubert Street was established in 2016 and is managed by Zenobia Venter.

It offers a place of safety to abused, orphaned and neglected children in Germiston.

“The home currently accommodates 13 children at a time, ranging from newborn to five-year-olds.

“Care Bear Gauteng’s main focus is to nurture and protect abandoned children who have been let go by their parents for many different reasons and to help them get adopted so that they may have a better life,” said Zenobia.

The addition of the drop box will allow mothers to drop off their unwanted babies, knowing that Care Bear Gauteng will take them in without asking questions.

“Mothers who abandon their babies are often in desperate situations.

“Many have been abandoned themselves by the father of their child or by their families,” said Zenobia.

The wall and drop box were sponsored by local company C&S Consulting Engineers, who believes the project was the perfect way to give back to the community.

The unveiling was a festive event filled with fun and laughter.

“Thank you to everyone who was involved and attended the event, including representatives from Kempton Park Child Welfare, Heloman Properties, the Elsburg CPF, Seven Arrows Security and the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls,” said Zenobia.
