Luso come out on top in ELFA fixture

Luso Africa Football Club hosted Old Benonians Football Club in their Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League fixture, last Saturday.

Luso Africa Football Club continued their Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League campaign last weekend, hosting Old Benonians Football Club.

The match, played at Hattingh Park, last Saturday, saw several yellow cards being issued as the first teams fought for the win.

The closely contested match saw Luso and Old Bens fighting for possession in the early stages of the match, but it was Luso who drew first blood with a headed goal from Tyler Hills.

Old Bens didn’t let this rattle them and soon scored an equaliser before the teams headed into half-time.

The brief break seemed to be just what Luso needed and the club kicked it into high gear for the second half with goals from Nathan Nel and Sizwe Magagu.

The visitors, however, were unable to find the back of the net again and Luso came out of the match the winners with a final score of 3-1.

This victory means the club remains in a strong position at the top of the Super League table.

The second teams’ fixture proved a tough one, this after Luso came from 3-1 down to beat Old Bens 4-3 earlier in the season.

The tight game gave few chances to either team in the early stages and Luso had to work hard to create any chance at goal.

The hard work paid off when Nuno De Sousa broke the deadlock midway through the first half.

The goal seemed to spur the home team on as several more chances were created, before the half-time whistle.

The second half saw much of the same from the teams with Luso creating chance after chance, but unable to convert them into goals.

The game ended in a 1-0 victory for Luso but the team were left disappointed to not have scored a few more goals.
