Rob Beaumont drives premium service into ATT

Rob Beaumont’s passion for service has rewarded him in the form of a successful tyre company.

From a single tyre shop established in 1987, Auto Truck & Tyre (ATT) is now an internationally acclaimed company, operating on a national level and will soon expand into Africa at large.

Rob Beaumont, a successful serial entrepreneur and founder of ATT who hails from humble beginnings now runs his company across five buildings on Bezuidenhout Street in Wadeville.

Recognising the general lack of customer service in the tyre industry, Rob set out to change the way customers were treated.

This applied to both the buying experience, as well as the post-sale service.

“By maintaining a focus on our customer’s needs, ATT has grown to become the trusted partner in the tyre business with many of our customers from our early days still keeping their trust in us today,” said Rob.

ATT not only re-treads but sells a variety of tyres including passenger vehicle tyres, truck tyres and earthmover tyres.

With adversities faced over the years including surviving a number of recessions, ATT was heavily impacted by a factory strike in 2015 which was motivated by unsatisfactory labour legislation laws.

“After the strike we decided to invest further in the factory and our staff and it has paid off,” said Rob.

Steadfast on service and staff development ATT, which employs over 600 people, introduced an internal training academy in March, this year.

The idea behind the academy is to upskill staff in the offices and in the factory to ensure that the company continues to offer premium service to customers while monitoring trends and maintaining standards.

Speaking to the GCN Rob clarified the misconception that all fragments of tyres seen on the roads are from dislodged re-treaded tyres.

“Re-treading in South Africa is generally done to a very high standard as it is critical to the big brand name fleets using re-treaded tyres to get their valuable loads delivered safely and in time.

“The integrity of any tyre re-treaded or not, lies in the tyre being maintained to ensure the correct tyre pressures.

“An underinflated tyre or road hazards are what causes blow-outs and this results in the pieces of tyre you see on the road,” he said.

The company is currently re-treading 850 tyres a day, 450 more than what their competitors are producing.

According to Rob, from a re-treaded truck tyre customers are expected to get anywhere between 80 000km to 100 000km and a standard passenger vehicle tyre should be replaced every four to five years and rotation should be performed every 5 000km on passenger vehicle tyres to ensure even wear over this time.

When he’s not running a leading tyre company in the country he’s flying helicopters and planes or partaking in extreme sports. This adrenaline junky and entrepreneur serves as an inspiration to many aspiring business leaders.
